A brief update on where support for The Roots of Progress comes from. My work is supported by a combination of grants and contracts, not all of which have been announced before now:
I am the recipient of a grant from the progress studies tranche of Emergent Ventures, a program of the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, run by Tyler Cowen.
In addition, in late 2019 I received grants from Open Philanthropy, the Long-Term Future Fund, and the Survival and Flourishing Fund.
Since November, I’ve been consulting part-time for Our World in Data on technology issues. Our World in Data is a fantastic resource for anyone who wants to understand the history and trends in global living standards, and has become even more valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic.
More recently, I have started working with Higher Ground Education to create the program announced yesterday, Progress Studies for Young Scholars.
I sometimes accept writing or speaking gigs, such as my World Health Day opinion piece for Leapsmag on pandemics and progress.
I have a Patreon with several dozen supporters.
Going forward I’ll update this periodically on the About page.
